Traverse City to Host First Startup Weekend

Startup Weekend Traverse City will connect local entrepreneurs, developers, designers, and startup enthusiasts with mentors and resources at its first event the weekend of June 13th. Throughout the course of this 54-hour event, attendees will share ideas, form teams, and launch startups. All are welcome to register as attendees including those with technical, design, or business backgrounds.

“This can be a real catalyst for the startup ecosystem. We want to get entrepreneurs up here and demonstrate what the area is capable of,” said organizer Bradley Matson.

“The basic idea is to bring people together for a weekend-long experiential workshop to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies. We are bringing Startup Weekend to Traverse City because we believe the proven opportunities and successes that stem from Startup Weekend will propel our budding startup community in the right direction. We’d like to put Northern Michigan on the map.”

Startup veterans and mentors will be on hand throughout the weekend to provide expertise and give talks on their experiences in the fast-paced world of technology startups. Speakers and judges will include Ted Serbinski of Detroit Venture Partners, Joel Mueller, founder of MacUpdate, and Jordan Breighner, founder of Coolhouse Labs.

Startup Weekend Traverse City is organized locally by Revision Legal and The Kitchen Digital. Northwestern Michigan College and the Traverse City Business News are amongst the sponsors.

Startup Weekend Traverse City will be June 13th-15th at NMC’s Parsons-Stulen Building. Cost for the weekend is $100 ($50 for students) and covers all food, access to facilities/resources, and an endless supply of coffee. Additional information and registration details are available at
